Away at West Ham on 5th Dec

Team selection

Cavani, Donny and Henderson in goal getting a start with a 4-2-3-1 formation. Looks good on paper but West Ham can frustrate the visitors. West Ham's position on the table is also a testimony to their form and cannot be taken lightly. For the first time we had fans returning and irrespective of the team they support, I am sure the players would have liked it.

First half

Cavani down the middle, Martial on the left and Van De Beek for the link up play. Pogba and McTominay playing the defensive midfield role and it is understood that Pogba's instinct is always to move forward. First half had hardly anything for ManUtd, Cavani's early striker runs did not have supply and Donny's one touch passes never really contributed to any penetrating moves. Cavani and Donny trying to make a mark, Martial down the left which is not so happening position for the French man. Pogba was still unsure of playing a defensive or offensive part. West Ham with a 4-2 in the middle nullified any sort of advance from the Red Devils. Cavani in a bid to help his midfield dropped back and this added to the congestion and no forward moment. Congested midfield and the turn overs added to the frustration. A goal from the Hammers in the 38th Min was more deserving and almost closed it for ManUtd, thanks to a half side and the post that saved the day.

Second Half

With a Champions League game in the midweek, plans of resting a few players was not working for Ole. In came Fernandes and Rashford replacing the new signings. The initial sprout of energy from the Hammers fizzed out and a moment of brilliance from Fernandes and Pogba turned the tide United way. Moments later, Greenwood's subtle first touch to change direction and a shot at goal found the back of the net in the 68th Min. Post Martial's substitution with a slight niggle saw Mata coming in. This allowed Rashford some run down the middle and the phase was something that the Hammers could not coupe with. In a bid to equalise, the Hammers played a high line and that was enough for a floating ball from Mata to Rashford who duly put the ball in the back of the net in the 78th min and sealed any hope of a Hammers' fightback.

Fernandes' movement across the pitch in anticipation needs a lot of appreciation and I believe that made all the difference for the United midfield post his recruitment.

Fluctuating fortunes, pandemic pressure and the number of games in close proximity is taking the toll on the players and pressure ever so slowly creeping up on Ole. But a comeback win always shows the team's attitude. A good win under the belt, up next was a tough away game at Germany for a spot in the round of 16 and against the noisy neighbours over the week end.

The beginning blues for the RED side

Theatre of Dreams I have heard of it, but never made it to the 'Theatre of Dreams', fans from other Clubs would be envious about not only in England but beyond, of this beautiful fortress. Unfortunately this fortress been breached more that the share that would be tolerated by its Fans.  Sir Alex has for sure left a void but things have to move on and the next legend is what the fans across the world are looking for. No one is bigger than the club, but if you are chosen to play for this club, you better be prepared for an attitude that comes along with the culture that is second to none. Home game Vs Crystal Palace The line up did surprise me a bit, James or Greenwood. I preferred Greenwood, of course he was in the news for all wrong reasons but the boy needs to change things and what best, than a good game to shift focus. But Ole had other thoughts, probably to protect him.  A make shift defence for the visiting team was a huge plus for us and of course home ground (not ...

Chelsea in Old Trafford

A big match, both the defence were under scrutiny for sometime now. A good outing last week against New Castle and a good midweek Champions league game against PSG a welcome release for Ole. Confidence for Reds but should not get into over confidence is what all United Fans will be hoping for. On the other hand Chelsea had a good outing and confidence soaring as well. Two home defeats on the trout was a worry for the Reds. Nervy and tentative first half Trusted eleven is what Ole had gone with switching back to the four at the back. Packed midfield and probably the heat map would be showing completely red in the middle of the park and slightly on the Chelsea half. With both the teams having phase upfront, the midfield was looking for an error from reach other. Last seven to ten min saw some brisk phase but other wise a very tentative first half.  Should have looked up a little bit more missing out on swift passes and the missed chance from Rashford.  Work rate from McTominay a...

Against Bielsa's Leads at Home

Almost the same quad from last season but with a higher level of confidence, two decent signings and the players with a fresh mindset. The mindset is definitely on the up...the crowds are in and the football sound is on. We all know how well Leads play, with their attacking mindset but with a touch of strategic class from Bielsa.  The lads seem to be a lot more confident with most of them having a good outing for their respective countries. Maguire and Shaw have made the two position their own. Lindelof's getting the captain's arm band for his country puts him in a much better state of mind. Wan Bissaka his usual self. McTominay, Fred occupying the middle Pogba flanking the left and Dan James on the right. Bruno attacking from the middle with Greenwood upfront.  Greenwood showing some good intent, Dan James better than last year but has more work to do apart from managing his phase. Pogba a shadow of himself when it comes to finishes but his assists are of course right up ther...
