Away against Leicester - 26th Dec 2020

A tricky one for the 2nd spot but The Red Devils have a game in hand. The results in the last 5 for ManUtd has been the best in the league with no losses and one draw closely followed by Liverpool and Mancity with two draws each. Was a little surprised that Pogba was left in the bench, Fred and McTominay take the defensive midfield. The formation was more like 3-4-2-1 with Shaw and James supporting the midfield. Bruno and Rashford supporting Martial upfront. Ole has just filled the midfield and the weak-link for me is the right side with James more a player upfront on the wings and this may expose Lindelof.

First half

The Red Devils started with a upper hand. Rashford missed a sitter in the 2nd min. Have seen this earlier, when a team misses chances upfront they are made to pay later on and fingers crossed, I was hoping this does not happen. Rashford made up for the miss and converted one around the 23rd min. One up, I haven't seen ManUtd loosing the game from here for sometime now. A sweet strike from Barnes, got the foxes back into the match.

Dan James was way too low on his confidence, missed a lot of passes and played way too up in the field and left Lindelof exposed a lot of times. But ManUtd were lucky not to get exploited. The game gathered some phase and both the teams had tremendous midfield play with interceptions and recovery runs from both the sides. An exciting second half was on the cards.

Second half

Started off with a midfield game. Leicester had an edge with respect to possession. But it was deliberate from ManUtd for the counter. But Leicester was ready for it, and covered upwell, nullified the phase with some good defensive performance. When the penetration was getting difficult, Ole mades a good move to bring on Cavani and had an impact immediately. Cavani seems to have that knack of running away from his marker and then does a beauty to set Bruno who duly converted it. Pogba was in to make the mid field stronger and was given a free run. Rashford moved to the right to cover up James' position. When things were settling down for ManUtd, Lindelof had to be taken off with a back strain he was carrying for a long time.  But the confusion was on the right side, missed the marker and the subsequent cross was met by Vardy. ManUtd had little time to move for another goal, 2-2 it ended.

Take aways - Red Devils are not capable of scoring and creating good amount of chances. Looks like Fred and McTominay are coming of age. ONE POINT A PIECE MAY NOT BE THE BEST FROM THIS FIXTURE BUT DEFINITELY NOT THE WORST.

The beginning blues for the RED side

Theatre of Dreams I have heard of it, but never made it to the 'Theatre of Dreams', fans from other Clubs would be envious about not only in England but beyond, of this beautiful fortress. Unfortunately this fortress been breached more that the share that would be tolerated by its Fans.  Sir Alex has for sure left a void but things have to move on and the next legend is what the fans across the world are looking for. No one is bigger than the club, but if you are chosen to play for this club, you better be prepared for an attitude that comes along with the culture that is second to none. Home game Vs Crystal Palace The line up did surprise me a bit, James or Greenwood. I preferred Greenwood, of course he was in the news for all wrong reasons but the boy needs to change things and what best, than a good game to shift focus. But Ole had other thoughts, probably to protect him.  A make shift defence for the visiting team was a huge plus for us and of course home ground (not ...

Chelsea in Old Trafford

A big match, both the defence were under scrutiny for sometime now. A good outing last week against New Castle and a good midweek Champions league game against PSG a welcome release for Ole. Confidence for Reds but should not get into over confidence is what all United Fans will be hoping for. On the other hand Chelsea had a good outing and confidence soaring as well. Two home defeats on the trout was a worry for the Reds. Nervy and tentative first half Trusted eleven is what Ole had gone with switching back to the four at the back. Packed midfield and probably the heat map would be showing completely red in the middle of the park and slightly on the Chelsea half. With both the teams having phase upfront, the midfield was looking for an error from reach other. Last seven to ten min saw some brisk phase but other wise a very tentative first half.  Should have looked up a little bit more missing out on swift passes and the missed chance from Rashford.  Work rate from McTominay a...

Against Bielsa's Leads at Home

Almost the same quad from last season but with a higher level of confidence, two decent signings and the players with a fresh mindset. The mindset is definitely on the up...the crowds are in and the football sound is on. We all know how well Leads play, with their attacking mindset but with a touch of strategic class from Bielsa.  The lads seem to be a lot more confident with most of them having a good outing for their respective countries. Maguire and Shaw have made the two position their own. Lindelof's getting the captain's arm band for his country puts him in a much better state of mind. Wan Bissaka his usual self. McTominay, Fred occupying the middle Pogba flanking the left and Dan James on the right. Bruno attacking from the middle with Greenwood upfront.  Greenwood showing some good intent, Dan James better than last year but has more work to do apart from managing his phase. Pogba a shadow of himself when it comes to finishes but his assists are of course right up ther...
